L05. Set up access you can keep

You will prepare access to learning services and save access-notes.txt without passwords. Allow about 45 minutes. You need a browser, access to your email and your phone. If you already have a personal Google Account, check that you can sign in and use it for the course.

In class

The teacher uses a sample account to distinguish a login address, password and recovery method. Learners prepare their own access notes without showing passwords, codes or private settings to the group.

One login, separate services

An account is your record within a service, with its settings and saved material. Your email address often serves as the login name. A password or another check helps the service establish that you are the account holder.

In this course, a Google Account will be useful for Gemini, Antigravity and YouTube. You can also use it with services offering Continue with Google. This does not merge those services: ChatGPT history and Claude conversations remain in different products.

Google and email sign-in can follow different procedures. Remember your choice. If the service does not recognise you, check your method and address before creating another account.

Prepare a personal Google Account

• Open accounts.google.com. If you already see your account, check the address and continue at step 5. To create one, choose Create account → Personal use. [F222]
• Provide the requested details. For existing email, select Use your existing email or phone number, enter the address, select Next, and confirm the emailed code. If you want a new Gmail address, choose a suggested option instead. [F222]
• Choose a unique password and save it in a password manager: an application or browser feature that stores login details. Do not put it in the learning file about-me.txt.
• Complete Google’s verification steps. If you add a phone, check its number before requesting a code. Enter the code only in the registration window you opened.
• Open myaccount.google.com. Under Security & sign-in, find Turn on 2-Step Verification and configure the offered second step. An organisation’s administrator may control access for a managed account. [F223]
• In that section, open Recovery phone to add or check your own number. A second accessible email can be added through Recovery email. Complete any verification and check which details were saved. [F230]

Additional sign-in verification may use your phone. With a passkey, unlocking your device can provide the confirmation. You do not necessarily need an SMS code for every sign-in. [F229]

Recovery details help you regain access when your usual sign-in fails. Reject a sign-in you did not start; open myaccount.google.com yourself and check account security.

Make an access note

In Notepad, create access-notes.txt inside Documents\AI-practice with your own details. Record the actual recovery status, such as “phone added” or “not configured yet”.

Service: Google.
Login address: my account address.
Sign-in method: password and confirmation on my phone.
Recovery: my checked status.

Keep passwords, one-time codes and backup codes out of the note. Do not share them with a teacher or AI chat.

Home practice

• Read access-notes.txt and imagine moving to another computer. Does it tell you which service to open and which sign-in method to choose? Compare the note with your account settings without changing anything.
• Create access-check.txt with three short findings: the sign-in method is accurate, recovery status is recorded, and the note contains no secrets. Do not copy passwords, codes or full recovery details. Bring only these findings to class.
