Allow about 20–30 minutes to create a channel and save its address. You need a computer browser, an internet connection, and access to your email. Our fictional example is “Olena: Simple Projects”, about books, walks, and an organised home. Use your own details when registering; Olena is the example character.
In class
The teacher demonstrates the difference between signing in to Google and creating a channel. Together, find a practice channel’s name, handle and address, then decide what to record.
An account and a channel do different jobs
A Google account gives you access to services. A channel is your YouTube page, where your videos will appear. If you already use Gmail, you do not need another Google account for this lesson. Signing in alone is not enough, however: uploading requires a channel. [P201][P202]

Give the channel a clear subject
In your usual ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini chat, enter:
> [PROMPT] Suggest three short channel names about books, walks, and organising a home. Use a calm tone. Avoid success promises and the word “expert”. Add one sentence explaining each channel’s subject.
One possible result is “Olena: Simple Projects — small activities you can try at home”. Choose a name you can say naturally. Check whether the unique identifier is available in YouTube’s Handle field.
Create the channel in your browser
Open youtube.com and select Sign in. Use your Google account. If you do not have one, choose Create account and the personal-use option. Enter your name, birthday, and the other requested information. Choose a Gmail address or use an existing email address. Create your password and complete any verification Google requests. [P201]
Select your profile picture → Settings → Account → Add or manage channel(s). Choose Create a channel. [P202]
Enter “Olena: Simple Projects” or your own channel name. Under Handle, choose a short, unique identifier, such as @olena.simple.projects. This is an example, not a reserved address. Add a relevant word if it is taken. You can add one of your own pictures as the profile image. Select Create channel.
Open YouTube Studio from the profile menu. Check the channel name beside the avatar. This is the destination for your later upload. On a shared computer, it is easy to remain signed in to somebody else’s account.
Open your channel page from the profile menu and copy its browser address. In File Explorer, open Documents → AI-practice and create a folder named content. In Notepad, write the channel name, handle, and page address, or URL; save as Documents\AI-practice\content\channel.txt. Keep passwords out of this file.
A free account is sufficient for our short video; YouTube Premium is unnecessary. A supervised account or an organisation’s account may have restrictions on channel creation. Ask the administrator about those restrictions rather than changing your birthday to avoid them. Add recovery information to your Google account while you have access to your email and phone. [P201][P202]
> [FIX] If a channel already exists, check its name and owner before proceeding. Use your existing channel for the exercise without creating a duplicate.
Home practice
On the computer, create channel-topic.txt in content, or use paper. Think of three short-video topics for your channel.
Choose one and describe its audience and an action viewers could repeat. You do not need a second channel.
Compare the idea with your channel name. Write two sentences explaining the fit. Save the note; another reader should understand the topic without an explanation.
