This lesson produces desk-script.txt, containing spoken lines and a five-shot plan. Allow about 25 minutes. You need Notepad, a familiar AI chat, and a desk you can organise. The video will demonstrate one complete activity: making room to read or work.
In class
Read the script aloud together and time each shot. With the teacher, identify lines that need shortening and actions that need more screen time before filming.
Make a promise the footage can fulfil
Olena shows how to remove extra objects, keep useful things nearby and check the result. Each spoken line accompanies a visible action the viewer can repeat.
Forty seconds describes the edited video, not a deadline for cleaning. Several minutes might pass between shots. “Three steps to a clear desk” describes the content more accurately than “Clean everything in 40 seconds”.
Build five shots
- Create
desk-script.txt in Documents\AI-practice\content. Begin with: “Goal: demonstrate three simple actions. Format: vertical. Duration: approximately 40 seconds.” - Paste the following prompt into your chat and send it.
> [PROMPT] Help me plan a 40-second English video about organising a desk. Only hands, a book, a notebook, a pen, and a box appear. Use five shots: the problem, remove unnecessary objects, keep the essentials, give small items a home, and show the result. Provide each shot’s time, one action, and one short spoken line. No purchases, music, or productivity promises.
- Compare the answer with the worked script below. Remove any organiser, lamp, or other object you do not own.
| Time | Picture | Spoken line |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 0–5 s | A desk covered with extra objects | “I need a clear space to work.” |
| 5–14 s | Hands move unnecessary objects into a box | “I remove the things I will not use today.” |
| 14–23 s | A book, notebook, and pen remain | “I keep only what I need for this task.” |
| 23–32 s | Small items go into one box at the side | “Small things stay together instead of spreading across the desk.” |
| 32–40 s | A wider view reveals the clear centre | “Now there is room for my book. Try clearing one small area.” |
[[VIS:s20_shots]]
- Copy your chosen five-shot plan into
desk-script.txt below the opening lines, keeping each shot’s timing, action and spoken line. Read the lines aloud with a stopwatch. Both the words and the action must fit the allotted time. Shorten a long sentence so you can speak at a normal pace. - Add these brief on-screen labels to the file: “Make space”, “Remove extras”, “Keep essentials”, “Group small items”, and “Ready to work”. Save with Ctrl+S.
Check the scene before recording
Look at the desk from the camera’s position. Remove addressed envelopes, personal documents, and screens displaying messages. Use a light, empty box. Place the phone on a stable support away from the edge. Record the “before” view first: it is easy to forget once the desk is tidy.
> [FIX] If the script requires another camera operator, ask the AI: “Rewrite this for a stationary phone; I am filming alone.” Check that every action can still happen inside the frame.
Home practice
- Save a separate script as
content\shelf-script.txt. Change the subject to making room for three books on a shelf. Keep the original desk-script.txt for the next lesson. - Plan five shots: an opening, three actions and a result. Give each a duration and one spoken line.
- Read it aloud with a timer. Record the total duration and one revision. Aim for 30–45 seconds using only objects you have.
Self-test
- How long do the five shots last?
- The video promises room for a book, but the final shot shows only the box. What is missing?
- The AI adds an attractive scene you cannot film. What should you do?
Useful terms
