28 Publish on TikTok and check access

LESSON OBJECTIVE Upload a TikTok test post with Only you access and verify its state.
STUDENT DELIVERABLE audience-plan.txt or paper with three appropriate states and a way to demonstrate the result privately.
VERIFICATION CRITERION audience-plan.txt or paper with three appropriate states and a way to demonstrate the result privately.

Allow about 20–30 minutes to upload desk-tiktok.mp4 and check access. The result is a test post only you can view. You need the account from Lesson 26 and the finished file on your phone. A draft is saved preparation for a post. A video set to Only you has already been uploaded as a post.

In class

Using a practice example, the teacher compares a draft with an uploaded Only you post. Together, locate the audience setting and inspect what the owner sees after uploading.

Prepare the caption

Write this in your phone’s notes: “Making room for a book: remove extras and keep the essentials. My small project for today.” Leave out your home address and any label identifying the filming location.

For another version, enter this in your AI chat:

An expected example is “A little space for reading. I started with the things I will not need today.” On the computer, append your chosen caption to Documents\AI-practice\content\tiktok-script.txt. Keep it in the phone’s notes as well for pasting into TikTok.

Upload and select the audience

  1. On the phone, open TikTok and check the profile name. Select + / Add post. Use Upload or the gallery thumbnail to choose desk-tiktok.mp4. [P221]
  2. Select Next and watch the preview. If the file already includes subtitles, avoid adding a second overlapping set. Keep your own voice without added music.
  3. Continue to the post screen and insert the caption. If Cover or Select cover is available, choose the frame with the book on the clear desk. Leave the recording location untagged.
  4. Open the audience setting, labelled Who can view/watch this post, and choose Only you. Labels and positions may vary. Before continuing, confirm that the screen actually shows this access level. [P222]
  5. Review More options, if present. Turn off Allow comments and any offered video-reuse options for the initial check. Read questions about advertising or generated content and answer according to your actual material.
  6. Select Post and wait for completion. Open the video on your profile. If private posts have a separate tab, look there. Watch it all. Under … → Privacy settings, check that the audience remains Only you. [P222]
Three video states
01Draft

Preparation is not yet complete.

02Only you

An uploaded post for your own review.

03Chosen audience

Checked account and post settings.

Public access requires a deliberate audience choice.

When you are ready to show others

A private account can offer access to followers or mutual followers where those options are available. For public viewing, first disable Private account in the profile settings, then select Everyone for the individual post. Change these settings after reviewing the video. Available choices depend on age, region, and account status. [P222][P223]

Complete the exercise by checking the caption, playback and Only you access. View counts are not part of the assessment.

Home practice

  1. In content\audience-plan.txt, or on paper, write three situations: a video is unfinished, ready only for your own check, or ready for public viewing.
  2. Choose a draft, Only you or Everyone for each. For the third, also name the profile setting that needs checking.
  3. Explain how to show the local file to the teacher without making the post public. Save the plan; do not change the real video’s access for this exercise.

Self-test

  1. Are Only you and a draft the same?
  2. What must you check for public viewing?
  3. You selected Only you, and a friend cannot open the video. Does that necessarily mean the upload failed?

Useful terms

  • Draft: a saved, unfinished publication.
  • Only you: a post visible only to its owner.
  • Everyone: a public audience.
  • Cover: the frame representing the video.
Self-Test Answer Key (Lesson 28) Answer the three questions above first, then reveal the answer key to check your understanding.
  1. No. The first is an uploaded post with restricted access; the second is unfinished preparation.
  2. Both the account settings and the individual post’s audience.
  3. No. That is expected with Only you. Show your friend the local MP4 to demonstrate the result without changing access.
